Save the Chocó

The largest remaining corridor of the Chocó rainforest in Western Ecuador is the Reserva Tesoro Escondido. It is over 2000 hectares of primary forest in the Chocó lowlands, a global biodiversity hotspot. This area is highly threatened by extractive activities, such as timber extraction, agriculture and mining. The reserve protects one of the last healthy populations of Ecuadorian brown-headed spider monkeys - one of the most endangered primates in the world, as well as other endangered species such as the Great Green Macaw, the Banded-Ground Cuckoo, the Harpy Eagle, the magnificent jaguar, pumas and an incredible diversity of herpetofauna.
